I have always consider simplicity was the key in pop music. Mister Roth seems to share this point of view since A new kind of love is just a song with sharp guitar lines, nice melodies and catchy chorus. Simple and straightforward. Sure, the face of music will not be revolutionnized with those kind of songs. But revolution is not always the point. From time to time, having fun is good enough.
